Major Structural Conservation Efforts Begin at the Martand Sun Temple

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has launched a multi-year project to conserve and stabilize the ruins of the 8th-century Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag, Kashmir. Built by King Lalitaditya Muktapida of the Karkota dynasty, the temple is a masterpiece of Gandharan-influenced architecture. The project focuses on using traditional lime-mortar techniques and structural reinforcement to prevent further collapse of the massive stone arches.

In addition to physical restoration, researchers are conducting a digital 3D scan of the entire complex to create a high-fidelity virtual model for educational and tourism purposes. This initiative aims to preserve the site's unique blend of Hellenistic and Indian architectural styles.
