Archaeologists excavating at the Chandraketugarh site have discovered a cache of remarkably preserved terracotta figurines dating back to the Shunga Empire (2nd century BCE). The artifacts depict intricate jewelry, elaborate hairstyles, and deities, showcasing the high level of artistic sophistication in ancient Bengal.
The find also includes several pottery shards with Brahmi inscriptions, which are currently being deciphered to understand the socio-economic status of the urban center that once thrived in this region near the Vidyadhari River.
