Archaeologists in northern England have unearthed a rare Iron Age chariot burial containing the remains of a high-status individual and two horses. The find is unique for the presence of highly ornate bronze fittings and a shield featuring complex Celtic 'La Tène' style patterns.
Preliminary analysis suggests the burial dates to approximately 250 BCE. The remarkable preservation of the wooden wheels and iron tires provides a rare look at early British mobility and social stratification.
