Archaeologists have unearthed a magnificent, multi-tiered stepwell near the village of Lakkundi, showcasing the intricate Kalyani Chalukya architectural style. The structure features over fifty ornate shrines carved into its side walls, many of which remain remarkably intact despite being buried under silt for centuries.
The stepwell served not only as a critical water source but also as a community temple dedicated to water deities. Local authorities are now planning a major restoration project to integrate the site into the regional heritage tourism circuit.
