A stone inscription belonging to the Kadamba Dynasty has been discovered deep within the forests of Sanguem, Goa. Written in a mix of Sanskrit and Old Kannada, the inscription records a land grant made by King Jayakesi II to a local temple dedicated to Shiva.
The epigraphical evidence provides crucial data regarding the administrative boundaries and religious patronage of the Kadambas of Goa. Historians believe this find will help fill gaps in the regional history of the 12th century, particularly concerning the interaction between local chieftains and the central Kadamba authority.
