Rare Denisovan Hominid Tooth Discovered in Northern Laos Cave

A team of paleoanthropologists has announced the discovery of a molar belonging to a Denisovan hominid in a remote cave in northern Laos. This find is monumental as it provides further evidence that this extinct human relative lived in a wide range of environments, from the freezing Tibetan Plateau to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. DNA analysis confirms the specimen is approximately 130,000 years old.

The discovery supports the theory that Denisovans interbred with early Homo sapiens in Asia, contributing to the genetic makeup of modern populations in the region. This tooth is only the fourth confirmed physical remain of a Denisovan ever found, making it a cornerstone for understanding human evolution in the East.
