After decades of searching, a joint Greek-Swiss team has finally confirmed the location of the Sanctuary of Artemis Amarysia near Amarynthos. Excavations revealed a massive temple building from the 6th century BCE, along with votive offerings including jewelry, pottery, and bronze figurines dedicated to the goddess of the hunt.
The team also found inscriptions that confirm the site's identity and its role as a central hub for the Euboean league. This discovery is expected to reshape our understanding of regional religious practices and the political influence of ancient Greek sanctuaries during the Archaic and Classical periods.
