Previously Unknown Roman Amphitheater Unearthed in Northern Switzerland

Construction workers in the town of Kaiseraugst have stumbled upon the remains of a 4th-century CE Roman amphitheater. This discovery, detailed in the Helvetic Antiquity Review, represents the youngest known amphitheater of the Roman Empire, built during a period of significant regional instability.

The structure features large sandstone blocks and a well-preserved arena floor. Archaeologists believe the site was used for military training and public spectacles to boost morale among the Roman border troops stationed along the Rhine frontier.
