Archaeologists in Mexico have announced the discovery of a high-status Zapotec tomb dating to the Classic period. The tomb features stunningly preserved wall paintings depicting ritual processions and deities associated with the underworld. These murals offer a rare glimpse into the funerary traditions and cosmology of the 'Cloud People'.
Along with the murals, the chamber contained jade ornaments, finely carved ceramics, and obsidian blades. The style of the artwork suggests strong cultural exchanges between the Zapotec capital of Monte Albán and other Mesoamerican centers, providing fresh data for regional chronology.
