The Bihar State Heritage Board has launched a major restoration project for a recently discovered Buddhist Vihara (monastery) in the Lakhisarai district. Dating to the Pala Dynasty, the site features a central stupa surrounded by monk cells and a large assembly hall built with scorched bricks.
Conservationists are focusing on stabilizing the remaining terracotta plaques and stone pillars, which feature intricate carvings of Buddha and Bodhisattvas. The project aims to develop the site into a major hub for the Buddhist circuit, preserving the legacy of the Pala kings who were great patrons of art and learning.
