Pristine Roman 'Fast Food' Counter Opened to Public in Pompeii

Archaeologists at the Pompeii Archaeological Park have completed the restoration of a well-preserved thermopolium, an ancient version of a fast-food stall. The counter is decorated with vivid frescoes of ducks and a rooster, serving as a visual menu for the 1st-century residents of the city.

Analysis of the jars found at the site revealed traces of pork, fish, snails, and beef, providing a rare window into the diet of the common people of Pompeii. The site is now open to the public, featuring a transparent protective structure to preserve the delicate pigments.
