Paleontologists have discovered a graveyard of Genyornis newtoni, a giant extinct flightless bird, in the Lake Eyre basin. The find includes the most complete skull ever found, providing new insights into the bird's diet and evolutionary relationship with modern waterfowl.
The fossils are dated to approximately 45,000 years ago, coinciding with the period when early humans first inhabited the Australian continent. Evidence of charred eggshells at the site suggests that human predation may have played a role in the species' extinction.
