Massive Neolithic Communal Feast Site Unearthed in Orkney Islands

Excavations at the Ness of Brodgar in the Orkney Islands have revealed evidence of a massive communal feast involving over 400 cattle. The British Prehistory Journal reports that the remains, dating to approximately 2500 BCE, indicate a sophisticated logistical effort to gather and feed a large population for a ritual event.

The discovery of unique pottery styles and stone tools suggests that people traveled from as far as the Scottish mainland to participate. This site highlights the social cohesion and ritual importance of the Orkney archipelago during the Late Neolithic period.
