Submerged Neolithic 'Roadway' Identified Beneath the Mediterranean off Croatia

Marine archaeologists have discovered a 7,000-year-old stone structure that appears to be a roadway connecting a submerged settlement to the mainland of Croatia. The discovery, reported by Adriatic Maritime Studies, was made using high-resolution sonar and underwater drones at a depth of 5 meters.

The road was constructed of carefully stacked stone plates and served the Hvar Culture. This find provides rare evidence of how ancient coastal communities adapted to rising sea levels following the last glacial period, ultimately losing their land to the sea.
