Marine archaeologists have begun a new excavation of a submerged Roman maritime villa in the underwater archaeological park of Baia. Recent shifts in the seabed have exposed previously hidden mosaic floors and marble statues belonging to a luxurious estate from the 2nd century CE.
The villa features a sophisticated system of private thermal baths and fishponds, illustrating the opulence of the Roman elite. The site is being documented using photogrammetry to create a high-definition digital twin for researchers worldwide.
