A team of Vietnamese and Indian archaeologists has discovered a pristine 8th-century Shivalingam during a survey of the My Son peripheral zone. Carved from a single block of sandstone, the artifact belongs to the Champa civilization, which flourished along the coast of central Vietnam and was deeply influenced by Sanatan Dharma.
The discovery is significant as it confirms the existence of a larger temple complex yet to be fully excavated. The Lingam features a polished finish and a square base (Brahma-bhaga) that remains intact, providing vital clues about the religious architecture and rituals practiced by the Champa kings during their peak.
