Using advanced multi-spectral imaging and AI, researchers have successfully read a previously invisible text from a charred papyrus scroll found in the Villa of the Papyri. The text is a philosophical treatise on the nature of 'pleasure and virtue,' attributed to a follower of Epicurus.
This breakthrough allows scholars to read the 'unrollable' scrolls without physically touching them, preventing disintegration. The AI algorithm was trained to recognize the subtle texture of ink on carbonized layers, effectively digitizing a lost library of the Roman world that was buried by Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.
