Archaeologists in the ancient city of Mastaura have fully excavated a Roman amphitheater that is uniquely well-preserved. Unlike many other structures of its kind, this theater retains much of its original stone seating and vaulted galleries, capable of holding over 15,000 spectators.
The site was preserved due to a natural landslide centuries ago that buried the structure in protective silt. This discovery is being hailed as one of the most significant finds in Roman archaeology in Turkey in the last fifty years.
