A joint Swiss-Greek archaeological team has uncovered a massive sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Artemis near the ancient city of Amarynthos on Euboea. The site includes a temple, several secondary altars, and a monumental fountain house, all dating primarily from the 6th to 2nd centuries BCE.
Votive offerings found at the site include ivory figurines, jewelry, and clay pots depicting hunting scenes, emphasizing Artemis's role as the mistress of animals. The team also discovered an inscription confirming the temple's identity, ending a century-long search for this legendary sacred site.
