Expansive Underground Network Discovered Beneath Nevşehir in Turkey

Geologists and archaeologists have discovered a new, massive underground city in the Nevşehir province of Cappadocia. Initial surveys indicate that this subterranean network could accommodate up to 25,000 people and features ventilation shafts, wine presses, and places of worship.

While Cappadocia is known for Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, this new site is estimated to be 30% larger. It appears to have been used as a refuge during the Byzantine-Arab wars, showcasing the incredible engineering and resilience of ancient Anatolian communities.
