Farmers in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh have discovered a hoard of 25 copper objects, including unique anthropomorphic figures and celts. These artifacts belong to the Copper Hoard Culture of the late 2nd millennium BCE and are notable for their heavy weight and high purity of copper.
Archaeologists believe these items were ritualistic offerings rather than everyday tools. The discovery of such a large cache in Central India points to an extensive network of copper mining and metalworking that flourished during the transition from the Neolithic to the Iron Age.
