New archaeological surveys at Dorëzi Castle have identified structural foundations belonging to one of the earliest urban civilizations in the Tirana region. The hillfort shows evidence of defensive engineering that predates many known Hellenistic settlements in the Balkans. Recent excavations have revealed a series of stone terraces and subterranean storage pits that were used for grain preservation and communal defense.
Archaeologists believe that Dorëzi served as a strategic stronghold controlling the movement of goods between the Adriatic coast and the Albanian interior. The newly uncovered sections of the fortress wall showcase a unique dry-stone construction style that indicates a sophisticated pre-urban society living in the region during the Early Iron Age.
