The Hoeamsa Temple Site in Yangju has reached a significant milestone in its pursuit of UNESCO World Heritage status. The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), serving as the official advisory body to UNESCO, has formally recognized the site's potential for listing.
The nomination, titled 'Hoeamsa Temple Site: An Archaeological Site Representative of 14th-Century East Asian Seon Buddhist Monasteries,' underwent a preliminary assessment to evaluate its historical significance. Yangju city officials are now coordinating with the Korea Heritage Service to address ICOMOS recommendations, aiming for a final inscription on the World Heritage List by 2029.
