A Slovenian-led archaeological team has discovered a previously unknown Maya city featuring a pyramid temple standing over thirteen metres high. The discovery was made possible through the use of advanced airborne laser scanning (LiDAR) technology, which revealed hidden structures beneath the dense jungle canopy.
To reach the site, the research team had to clear a five-kilometre path through the terrain. This significant find adds a new chapter to the understanding of ancient Maya urban planning and architectural capabilities in the region.
