Archaeologists have identified what is believed to be the world's oldest shipwreck discovered to date off the coast of Turkey. The vessel, which likely originated from the Levant, was found carrying a cargo of amphorae containing mysterious residues that researchers are currently analyzing to determine if they held olive oil, wine, or tree resin.
The discovery provides significant new insights into ancient maritime trade routes, suggesting the ship may have been en route to Troy or the Minoan civilization in Crete. The recovered artifacts are undergoing conservation and are slated for display at the upcoming Mediterranean Underwater Archaeological Museum in Antalya.
