Egyptian authorities have announced the discovery of fragments belonging to two colossal royal statues in the village of Bahbit Al-Higara, located in the Gharbia Governorate. The find includes a significant pink granite block inscribed with the royal titles of King Ramses II, alongside a 1.60-metre-tall head of the pharaoh wearing the Double Crown.
The discovery was initiated after a local resident discovered an inscribed stone block on his property and alerted the authorities. Rescue excavations by the Supreme Council of Antiquities suggest the original statues may have stood approximately 8.5 metres tall. Ongoing studies aim to determine the architectural context of these monumental remains.
