Archaeologists Identify Major Aksumite Trade Hub in Northern Ethiopia

A joint international team has mapped a previously unknown Aksumite urban center in northern Ethiopia. The site features massive stone platforms and evidence of a glass-making workshop, indicating the city was a key node in the maritime trade between the Roman Empire and India.

Found items include Aksumite gold coins and imported pottery from the Mediterranean. The discovery highlights the economic reach of the Kingdom of Aksum during its peak in the 4th century CE.
