Early Historic Port Uncovered Near Bharuch Reveals Indo-Roman Trade Hub

Archaeologists excavating a site near the Narmada estuary have uncovered a significant Early Historic port settlement dating back to the 1st century CE. The discovery includes massive brick structures believed to be warehouses and a jetty, suggesting the area served as a primary node in the maritime trade network between India and the Roman Empire.

Artifacts found at the site include Roman amphorae fragments, terracotta seals with Mediterranean motifs, and a variety of Indo-Scythian coins. Researchers believe this find provides concrete archaeological evidence for the port of Barygaza mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea.
