During structural restoration work at the Bhimesvara Temple in Draksharamam, Andhra Pradesh, workers discovered a series of hidden granite slabs within the foundation of the inner sanctum. The slabs contain rare Pallava-era inscriptions in the Grantha script, detailing previously unknown royal patronage and temple rituals from the late 7th century.
Experts believe these inscriptions prove that the current 10th-century Chalukyan structure was built upon a much older Pallava shrine. This find provides a critical link in the architectural transition of temple building in the Deccan, showing how succeeding dynasties preserved and expanded upon sacred Sanatan sites.
