Genomic Study of Megalithic Remains in the Brahmagiri Region Reveals Genetic Continuity with Modern Agrarian Communities

A comprehensive paleogenomic study published in early April analyzed the DNA from 3,000-year-old skeletal remains found at the Megalithic site of Brahmagiri, Karnataka. The results show a direct genetic lineage between the Iron Age inhabitants and modern-day farming communities in Southern India, suggesting a remarkably stable population over three millennia.

The study also identified genetic markers associated with resistance to tropical diseases, indicating that these ancient populations had already adapted to the local environment by the early first millennium BCE. This research reinforces the theory of long-term cultural and biological continuity in the Sanatan heartlands of South India.
