A rare palm-leaf manuscript dating to the 12th-century Kalyani Chalukya period has been deciphered by the Institute of Ancient Sciences. The text, a treatise on Sthapatya Veda (ancient architecture), specifically outlines the mathematical ratios required to create 'echo-less' chambers within stone temples.
The manuscript confirms that the famous 'musical' and 'whispering' pillars of South Indian temples were not accidental, but deliberately engineered using specific granite densities and hollowed internal cavities. These findings bridge the gap between ancient architectural philosophy and modern acoustic physics.
