In a major breakthrough for Indian epistemology, researchers at the National Manuscript Conservation Centre in Nepal have identified three previously unknown folios belonging to a lost section of the Tattvopaplavasimha. This 8th-century work, attributed to the radical skeptic Jayarasi Bhatta, is famous for its systematic demolition of all traditional means of knowledge (Pramanas).
The newly found fragments explore a previously undocumented argument against the reliability of inference (Anumana) in ethical matters. Scholars suggest these pages provide a missing link in the evolution of the Charvaka school, showing a much more nuanced approach to moral philosophy than previously assumed by their opponents. The discovery is expected to spark a global re-evaluation of 'Cosmic Skepticism' in ancient Indian thought.
