Comparative Analysis of 'Sulba Sutra' Geometries and Mature Harappan Brick Architecture Reveals Shared Mathematical Standards

A new study in the Heritage Science Journal has used statistical modeling to compare the geometric proportions specified in the 800 BCE Sulba Sutras with the actual brick dimensions of Mature Harappan cities (2500 BCE). The results show a nearly identical 1:2:4 volumetric ratio, suggesting a long-term continuity of mathematical and engineering standards across the Indus and Vedic periods.

The research suggests that the ritual geometry used for fire altar construction was derived from a much older, standardized system of urban metrology. This findings challenge the traditional view of a sharp cultural break between the Harappan and Vedic civilizations, pointing instead toward a shared legacy of practical geometry and civil engineering.
