Intact 18th-Dynasty 'Royal Gem-Cutter’s Tomb' Uncovered in Amarna with Unfinished Lapis Lazuli Ornaments

A joint Egyptian-British mission has announced the discovery of an unlooted tomb in Amarna belonging to a high-ranking artisan of the 18th Dynasty. The tomb of Amenhotep-Pa-Kheru, designated as the 'Master of Royal Gems,' contains a wealth of burial goods including the tools of his trade.

Inside the funerary chamber, researchers found several chests filled with raw lapis lazuli, carnelian, and turquoise imported from the Sinai and Afghanistan. Most significant are the unfinished necklaces and amulets found beside the sarcophagus, providing a rare 'snapshot' into the jewelry-making processes used during the reign of Akhenaten.
