Maritime Archaeologists Identify 'The Pearl Way' – A 3,000-Year-Old Trade Link Between the Red Sea and the Indus Valley

A joint international team of maritime archaeologists has announced the discovery of 'The Pearl Way', a previously undocumented maritime trade route that connected the coastal settlements of the Red Sea with the Indus Valley Civilization. Using advanced autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), researchers located a series of submerged depots containing worked pearls, lapis lazuli, and carnelian beads off the coast of Socotra.

This discovery provides the first physical evidence of direct, long-distance maritime exchange between these regions during the Late Bronze Age. The findings suggest that ancient mariners possessed sophisticated knowledge of monsoon wind patterns and celestial navigation much earlier than previously thought, fundamentally altering our understanding of early globalized economies.
