Rare 8th-Century 'Gurjara-Pratihara' Sun Temple with Intact Astronomical Shadow-Clock Discovered in Bundelkhand

In a remote corner of the Bundelkhand region, archaeologists have uncovered an 8th-century sun temple that features an innovative astronomical shadow-clock integrated into its courtyard. The device consists of a central stone gnomon and a series of graduated steps that allow for the precise measurement of solar time throughout the year.

Unlike other Pratihara temples which focus on idol worship, this site appears to have functioned as a proto-observatory. "The precision of the shadow-casting steps suggests a high level of mathematical expertise used to sync agricultural cycles with celestial movements," explained Dr. Rajesh Tiwari, a specialist in ancient Indian archaeo-astronomy.
