New excavations in Haryana have revealed clay tablets dating back to the 5th-century BCE. These tablets, inscribed with early Vedic aphorisms, focus on Citta-Vritti or the Philosophy of Concentrated Awareness, providing some of the earliest evidence of internalized meditative practices in the Gangetic plain.
The find is significant as it suggests that complex theories of mental focus were being debated in Vedic circles centuries before the formalization of the Yoga Sutras. The tablets also include diagrams of early physiological theories regarding the flow of vital energy throughout the body, linking breath to cognitive clarity.
