Excavations in the ancient city of Bubastis have revealed the foundations of a massive temple complex dedicated to the cat goddess Bastet. The discovery, led by a joint Egyptian-German mission, includes several well-preserved bronze statues of felines and limestone blocks inscribed with hieroglyphic hymns dating back to the Ptolemaic period.
Initial analysis suggests the temple served as a major center for religious pilgrimage and ritual feline burials. Researchers believe the site provides new insights into the economic importance of the Delta region and the evolution of the cult of Bastet during the 3rd century BCE, highlighting the intersection of Greek and Egyptian religious practices.
