Palaeontologists Identify 115-Million-Year-Old 'Indian Spinosaurid' Fossil in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna River Basin

A team of palaeontologists has announced the discovery of the first Spinosaurid dinosaur remains found in the Krishna River Basin of Andhra Pradesh. The fossils, consisting of several vertebrae and a partial jawbone, date back approximately 115 million years to the Early Cretaceous period, filling a significant gap in the fossil record of theropods in Gondwana.

This new species, characterized by its elongated snout and semi-aquatic adaptations, suggests that spinosaurids were far more geographically widespread than previously thought. The discovery was made during a routine survey of the river's sedimentary beds, which are increasingly revealing a high diversity of Mesozoic life in Southern India.
