Discovery of a 1,500-Year-Old 'Temple of the Feathered Serpent' Extension in Teotihuacan Using Muon Radiography

Using non-invasive muon radiography, a joint team of international researchers has identified a major previously unknown extension to the Temple of the Feathered Serpent in Teotihuacan, Mexico. The scans have revealed a series of interconnected subterranean chambers and a ceremonial ramp that appears to predate the main pyramid's construction. This finding suggests the site underwent multiple phases of ritual reconfiguration.

The newly identified 'Annex' is believed to have been a dedicated space for elite burials or the storage of highly sacred effigies. This technological breakthrough allows archaeologists to map the internal structures of the pyramid without damaging the fragile volcanic stone and stucco reliefs that decorate its exterior, marking a new era in the study of Mesoamerican sacred architecture.
