Discovery of a 2,800-Year-Old 'Temple of the Sacred Spring' in the Ancient Kingdom of Phrygia, Central Anatolia

Archaeologists working in Central Anatolia have discovered a 2,800-year-old Phrygian temple built directly around a natural spring. The structure, dating to the Iron Age, features a series of stone basins and channels that diverted the 'sacred' water through the main prayer hall, indicating a cult centered on water and fertility.

The team found several stone slabs inscribed with the Phrygian script, which are currently being deciphered. Preliminary analysis suggests the temple was a site for oracular consultations, where priestesses would interpret the ripples in the spring's water to provide guidance to the royal court of the Midas dynasty.
