Intact 26th-Dynasty 'Master of the Royal Fisheries' Tomb Unveiled in Saqqara with Rare Aquatic Reliefs

Archaeologists working in the northern sector of the Saqqara Necropolis have announced the discovery of a pristine tomb belonging to a high-ranking official from the 26th Dynasty. The tomb occupant, identified as the 'Master of the Royal Fisheries,' was responsible for managing the Nile's aquatic resources for the pharaonic court. The burial chamber features exceptionally vibrant wall reliefs depicting various species of Nile fish, some of which are shown being harvested and processed into dried goods.

The excavation team from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities recovered several specialized artifacts, including a set of copper fishing hooks and a ceremonial net-weight inscribed with the official's name. Experts suggest that the tomb provides a unique window into the economic administration of the Late Period, specifically the management of food surpluses and the spiritual significance of the Nile's delta ecosystems. The state of preservation is remarkable, with pigments on the limestone walls appearing as though they were applied just centuries ago rather than 2,600 years ago.
