International researchers working at the historic site of Anshan have announced the discovery of a massive Sun Temple dating to the late Elamite or early Achaemenid transition. The structure features a large circular stone platform and a series of corridors aligned to the winter solstice, indicating a highly advanced understanding of celestial mechanics among the ancient residents.
The temple's interior yielded several votive bronze plaques inscribed with Elamite cuneiform, detailing offerings made to the sun god. This find is expected to reshape the understanding of religious continuity in ancient Persia, showing how earlier Elamite solar cults influenced the later Zoroastrian emphasis on light and fire. Restoration teams are now working to protect the fragile mud-brick walls from erosion.
