Significant 2,400-Year-Old 'Temple of Artemis' with Intact Golden Jewelry Uncovered in Ancient Parion, Turkey

A team of international archaeologists working in the ancient city of Parion, located in Turkey's Çanakkale province, has uncovered a significant temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis. The excavation reached a hidden votive pit beneath the cella floor, revealing a hoard of intact golden jewelry, including laurel-leaf crowns, earrings, and a rare fibula depicting a hunting scene.

The temple exhibits a classic Ionian architectural style, with marble column bases featuring intricate floral patterns. Researchers believe the temple was a center for female-led rituals during the Hellenistic period. The find is being hailed as one of the most important classical discoveries in Turkey this decade, offering a rare glimpse into the wealth and religious fervor of the 4th-century BCE Troad region.
