Intact 18th-Dynasty 'Overseer of the Royal Wardrobe and Fine Linen' Tomb Uncovered in Saqqara with Rare Painted Weaving Tools

A joint Egyptian-European mission has announced the discovery of an intact 18th-Dynasty tomb in the Saqqara Necropolis belonging to a high-ranking official named Amenhotep-Ra, the Overseer of the Royal Wardrobe and Fine Linen. The tomb's walls are adorned with vibrant, exceptionally well-preserved reliefs depicting the intricate process of flax harvesting and the spinning of high-quality linen favored by the Pharaonic court.

Inside the burial chamber, archaeologists found a set of rare painted weaving tools, including wooden spindles and loom weights, placed alongside the deceased to serve him in the afterlife. The burial also contains a collection of miniature terracotta models of textile workshops, providing new insights into the organizational hierarchy of the New Kingdom's fashion industry. Preliminary analysis of the linen fragments found within the sarcophagus suggests that the textiles were treated with rare botanical extracts to preserve their luster and strength.
