4,500-Year-Old 'Harappan Marine-Engineering School' and Stone Dry-Dock Templates Uncovered at Coastal Kutch Site

Excavations at a newly identified Indus Valley outpost in Gujarat's Kutch district have revealed a specialized training center for maritime engineering. The site features a series of miniature stone-cut models and clay templates used to design large-scale dry docks and tidal basins. These templates match the architectural proportions of the world-famous dockyard at Lothal, suggesting that Harappan engineers maintained a standardized 'pedagogical curriculum' for naval construction across their coastal territories.

Found within the central guildhall were dozens of calibrated bone measuring rods and stone drafting slabs showing geometric calculations for water displacement. Dr. Rajesh Iyer of the Archaeological Survey of India remarked that this site served as an academy for young architects, focusing on the mastery of hydraulic pressure and saline-resistant brickwork. The discovery confirms that the Indus Valley civilization possessed a formal system of technical education dedicated to maritime supremacy and international trade logistics.
