Pristine 10th-Century 'Cham' Dynasty Brick Temple Dedicated to Shiva Uncovered in Central Vietnam’s Remote Forest

In a joint expedition between Vietnamese and international archaeologists, a previously unknown Cham dynasty temple has been found deep within the Quảng Nam forest. Dating to the 10th century, the temple follows the Hoa Lai architectural style, characterized by sophisticated brickwork and sandstone decorative elements. The site appears to have been a private royal sanctuary for the Cham kings during their retreat from the coastal plains.

The temple is remarkably intact, with its sandstone pedestal and a rare Linga-Yoni still in their original positions. Unlike the more famous My Son Sanctuary, which suffered heavy damage during the 20th century, this site remained hidden by dense vegetation. Excavators have also recovered a collection of bronze bells and ritual lamps, providing new data on Cham religious ceremonies during the peak of their maritime empire.
