New Research Correlates 2nd Millennium BCE 'Yajurvedic' Star Patterns to the Precise Observation of a Rare Cometary Flare in the Constellation of Rohini in 1850 BCE

A study published in Heritage Science has provided new astronomical evidence linking specific descriptions in the Shukla Yajurveda to a rare celestial event. By using high-resolution orbital simulations, researchers identified a cometary flare that occurred in the constellation of Rohini (Aldebaran) in approximately 1850 BCE, matching the ritual metaphors described in the ancient text.

The research suggests that the authors of the Yajurvedic layers were conducting systematic observations of the night sky and recording transient astronomical phenomena with significant detail. This study adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the high degree of precision in ancient Indian astronomy and the longevity of the oral traditions that preserved these observations for centuries.
