A private collection in the Malabar region of Kerala has yielded a significant 10th-century manuscript titled 'Nyaya-Vilasa', a commentary on the logic of Sabda-Prama (verbal testimony). Unlike standard Nyaya texts that focus on the reliability of the speaker, this treatise explores the inherent power of syntax to convey truth independent of human agency. It introduces the concept of Vak-Siddhi, arguing that certain linguistic structures are naturally aligned with the structure of reality itself.
The discovery is expected to spark new debates in the field of Indian aesthetics and linguistics. Experts note that the author, a scholar named Vimalacharya, attempted to bridge the gap between logical realism and the more mystical linguistic theories of Bhartrihari, creating a unique hybrid epistemology that dominated local scholastic circles for several centuries before disappearing from the mainstream record.
