A team of researchers in Armenia has uncovered the remains of a 2,700-year-old sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Anahit. Located in the Vayots Dzor region, the site includes a massive ritual platform with precisely cut astronomical sighting-holes designed to track the rise of the morning star, which was traditionally associated with the deity.
Votive offerings found at the site include bronze mirrors and ceramic vessels depicting celestial motifs. The architecture shows a distinct Urartian influence, utilizing cyclopean masonry techniques. This temple is believed to have been a major pilgrimage site for fertility and water rituals, reflecting the deep-seated spiritual traditions of the ancient Armenian highlands.
